| 6 | slices | whole wheat bread (cut off the crust) | |

| 2 | tablespoons | butter or margarine, softened | |

| 1 | cup | shredded Cheddar cheese | |
|
|
|||
| 3/4 | cup | shredded Monterey Jack cheese | |
|
|
|||
| 1 1/2 | cups | cut-up ham | |
|
|
|||
| 3 | large Granny Smith apples, sliced and skinned | ||

|||
| sugar to cover apple slices | |||
|
|
|||
| cinnamon to cover apple slices | |||

| 1 1/4 | cups | half and half (you can use some nonfat) | |
|

| 8 | large eggs | ||
|
|
|||
| 1 | tablespoon | ground mustard | |
|
|
|||
| 1 | tablespoon | Worcestershire sauce | |
|
|
|||
Spread bread with butter. Arrange buttered slices in single layer in greased 9- by 13-inch baking dish. Layer half of cheese, then all of ham and apples (with sugar and cinnamon). Top with remainder of cheese.
Beat together eggs, half and half, mustard powder and Worcestershire. Pour over casserole. Cover; refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight.
Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.

“This was very tasty even though I substituted potato bread for wheat - it was definitely better the second morning when the flavors had more time to "gel."”
